Mr. Antolini represents Holden's feeling towards adults in many ways. Mr. Antolini seems to want to open up Holden and help him out. Holden trusts him, until suddenly, for some reason, Holden decides to close himself up and shut Mr. Antolini out completely. I think he feels as if Mr. Antolini is trying to make him grow up, but Holden is trying to avoid the step to maturity. For this reason, he tends to block all adults out.
ReplyDeleteHolden feels comfortable because he is finally being taken care of rather than having to fight everything on his own.
The events at the end of the chapter show how whenever Holden would finally be accepted by someone, his overly cynical views of the world step in and he repeatedly blocks everyone out.
Mr. Antolini can be seen as a "catcher in the rye" in a different sense as Holden imagines. Holden wants to protect kids from everything; he wants them to keep their innocence. Mr. Antolini, on the other hand, wants to be a bridge in between childhood innocence and adulthood maturity. He wants to help Holden out, unlike Holden, who just wants to block off growing up completely.

ReplyDeleteMr. Antolini represents Holden's feelings and experiences with adults. Holden feels that adults are always trying to figure him out and make him want to open up more. That just makes Holden shut himself out more. He feels comfortable because he is somewhat being taken care of by Mr. Antolini. But when Holden wakes up, that comfort he felt before is now replace by with feelings of being scared and cluelessness. Mr. Antolini can be seen as a "catcher in the rye" because he wants help children grow up.

ReplyDelete1. Mr. Antolini represents Holden's feelings and experiences with adults in a poem. He tries to talk to Holden and understand his problems. He wants to help him become a better person and to understand himself.
2. Holden feels comfortable in Mr. Antolini's home because he has been there before and he knows both Mr. Antolini and Mrs. Antolini very well.
3. In the end of the chapter, Holden was grossed and freaked out when Mr. Antolini was rubbing his head while he was sleeping. Holden can't seem to find a comfortable place, even if he is alone.
4. Mr. Antolini can be seen as a "catcher in the rye" because he is trying to keep Holden from going in the wrong direction. He told him that he would find his calling in life and that once he did, he would need an education for it so he would have to start as soon as he knew his decision. Mr. Antolini is trying to keep Holden from falling off the cliff.

2. Holden feels comfortable in Mr.Antolinis house because he was his old english teacher and a close family friend. They had a past history together and he was someone that Holden knew and liked.
3. The events at the end of the chapter are symbolic of Holdens inability to find a peaceful and comfortable place because it seems as though every where he goes, he comes across some sort of problem. He finds something wrong with every place he visits.
4. Mr.Antolini can be seen as a "catcher in the rye" because he sees that holden is falling and he tries his best to run in out of no where and save him. He talks with Holden to try and get him back on the right track.
ALL DONE =]
Mr. Antolini represents Holden's feelings with adults by basically being his father. In a child's life there is always that person that will talk to you when your wrong. I think Antolini expresses that. Holden feels comfortable because he doesn't have to try to impress anybody. He can be consider the "catcher in the rye" because he tries to assist or "catch" Holden.
ReplyDeleteHOW BOUT THEM COLTS
In my opinion, Mr. Antolini does not represent Holden's feelings and experiences with adults because Holden usually does not get along with adults. Almost all the teachers he has had, he did not really like. But he likes Mr. Antolini. Holden has had bad experiences with adults, but not with Mr. Antolini.
ReplyDeleteI think Holden feels comfortable in Mr. Antonili's house because he knows he is welcome there. And he has a good relationship with Mr. and Mrs. Antonili.
At the end of the chapter, Holden feels like Mr. Antolini is making a pass at him. He leaves his apartment and ends up sleeping in the waiting room at Grand Central. It symbolizes how Holden could not find anywhere else to sleep, and had to sleep in a place which was not peaceful and comfortable. Holden was alone in the world, and he was pretty lost.
Mr. Antolini can be seen as the catcher in the rye because he is telling Holden what he is doing wrong, and he is helping him. He is trying to catch Holden before he falls.

ReplyDeleteMr. Antolini represents Holden's feelings and experiences with adults by saying that Holden is always thinking that adults are trying to figure him out. They are always pressuring him to do well in school and to apply himself at the things he does (like the classes he takes in school.) Holden feels comfortable in Mr. Antolini's home because the felt that Mr. Antolini was cool and he was one of Holden's favorite teachers. Antolini and Holden have a close relationship and Holden has been over his house before. Also Holden's parents are very close with Mr AntoliniThe events at the end of the chapter is symbolic and indicative of Holden's inability to find a peaceful and comfortable place because he's not comfortable at school and he at first feels comfortable at Mr. Antolini's house but then feels scared and nervous after Mr. Antolini pats his head while he's sleeping. Mr. Antolini could be seen as "a catcher in the rye" because he described Holden as falling since Holden doesn't really like anything and doesn't apply himself to his fullest abilities. He is trying to catch Holden before he's fell to the ground by giving him advice and telling him the truth about how Holden views life and doesn't take his opportunities seriously.
Mr. Antolini represents Holden's feelings and experiences with adults because in a way, Mr. Antolini is like holden's conscience. Holden feels comfortable in Mr. Antolini's because Mr. Antolini welcome him in and he goes way back with Holden. The events at the end of the chapter is symbolic and indicative of Holden's inability to find a peaceful and comfortable place because when Mr. antolini touches him and Holden left with panic, it symbolized that throughout his life, Holden can never find a peaceful area in which he can stay. Mr. Anotlini can be seen as the catcher in the rye because he "catches" Holden before Holden messes up his life and gave him a lecture of what Holden can be capable of.
